Thrust roller bearings are preferred for axial load applications because they provide higher stiffness than other types.

There are three types of thrust roller bearings:

1. Cylindrical roller thrust bearing

Tapered roller thrust bearing

Spherical roller thrust bearing

Spherical roller thrust bearing is a kind of self-aligning bearing.In use, it allows a maximum axial deviation of about 2 degrees.The contact Angle helps this type of bearing handle a small amount of radial load.

Lubrication of these bearings requires care as their large sliding contact area can lead to smudging.Care shall be taken to keep the bearing at a minimum rated load to avoid fouling.
